Superabundante Graça é o que temos experimentado dia após dia aqui no Haiti. Os dias 20 e 21 foram cheios de atividades e desafios que se abriram diante de nós, fizemos coisas que sequer imaginávamos que sabíamos!
O dia começou cedo com as equipes de construção saindo às 7h da manhã para o trabalho: reconstrução de pisos e paredes de um orfanato que abriga 24 crianças e alimenta pelo menos mais 16 durante o dia. A segunda equipe trabalha na ampliação de uma clínica.
Enquanto as equipes trabalhavam as crianças saltitavam alegremente em torno dos homens e faziam questão de tentar ajudar. Um dos nossos trabalhadores (Wilton) percebeu o desejo delas e orientou-as a levar baldinhos com pedras que seriam usadas no fundamento. A alegria delas foi audível: gritinhos e gargalhadas ecoavam por toda parte. O prazer que sentiram em ajudar a reconstruir o orfanato foi indescritível. O trabalho é árduo e por vezes precisa ser muito primitivo (os haitianos não se sentem seguros quando o trabalho não é feito do jeito deles). Aos poucos a casa derrubada pelo terremoto vai tomando forma e pela primeira vez desde o terremoto o coração de Madame Crislam se enche de esperança ao perceber que em breve poderá recolher suas crianças para dormirem dentro de casa novamente. Deus seja louvado!
O trabalho da Clínica também é lento, mas muito compensador: camas são fixadas, telhado é levantado, a sala de espera começa a tomar forma. Mais conforto e dignidade são evidentes.
O hospital onde a clínica funcionava, já existia no Haiti muito antes do Terremoto. Uma ONG fundou no Haiti cerca de 40 anos atrás, uma escola, Universidade, Clinica Oftalmológica e Hospital. Com o terremoto tudo veio abaixo, a reconstrução exigiria milhares de dólares. Uma universidade da Florida ofereceu-se para reconstruir a clínica com a condição de que Jesus não fosse mais pregado e nenhuma oração fosse erguida ao Senhor. Os missionários que aqui estavam entenderam que não era este o propósito para o qual haviam sido chamados e decidiram abrir mãos deste recurso que foi direcionado para outro lugar. Em meio aos escombros foram se erguendo tendas e aos poucos a clínica voltava a atender, ainda que precariamente. O povo tão carente de atendimento hospitala é ainda mais de atendimento espiritual. O Senhor tem sido fiel e aos poucos outra clínica vem sendo construída e para honra e glória dEle, nós agora também fazemos parte desta história!
Duas equipes femininas se dividiram para fazer evangelismo e visitação na comunidade. As maiores necessidades físicas sem dúvida são: comida, moradia, educação, saúde e segurança, mas temos nos surpreendido com pessoas sedentas de retornar ao evangelho de Jesus.
Em uma das casas visitadas, uma senhora pediu a uma das moças que foi integrada ao nosso grupo (Tita, colombiana), que lhe desse uma Palavra do Senhor (poucos são alfabetizados). Após ler a Bíblia e orar, despediu-se da família que ali estava e ao sair pisou na pata de um cachorro que imediatamente desferiu-lhe uma mordida. Com sabedoria a equipe despediu-se e levou Tita até a Clínica. Apesar de a mordida ter sido superficial, após ser medicada (o surto de raiva é grande no Haiti), os médicos recomendaram que o “cachorro” fosse visitado por 10 dias para observar se ele irá ou não desenvolver raiva. Conseqüentemente abriu-se nova porta de evangelismo naquele local, e a equipe está sendo muito bem recebida pela família.
Além dos trabalhos de construção, no dia 21 uma das equipes foi para uma ONG chamada Jesus in Haiti, onde cerca de 10 pastores e líderes da igreja local receberam treinamento e capacitação. Em torno de 100 mulheres também estavam reunidas para receber a Palavra do Senhor. Foi um tempo gratificante de comunhão e desafio.
Orem pelo trabalho de amanhã: a construção continua e a equipe feminina se dedicará ao trabalho com as crianças no orfanato. Precisamos de sabedoria e direção do Senhor!

August 20th and 21th – Superabundant Grace
Superabundant Grace is what we have experimented day after day here in Haiti. The days 20 and 21 were full of a lot of activities and challenges that opened before us, we did things that we don’t even imagine that we knew!
The Day started early for the construction team living at 7am to work: reconstruction of floors and walls of an orphanage that houses 24 children and feed at least 16 more during the day. The second team works in the expansion of a clinic.
While the teams were working, the children joyfully jump around the man, showing their wish to help. One of our workers (Wilton) noticed their wish, and asked them to carry little buckets with rocks that would be used in the foundation. Their joy could be heard: cheers and lots of laughs echoed everywhere. The pleasure that they felt in helping building the orphanage was indescribable. The work is hard and sometimes needs to be done on a primitive way (Haitians doesn’t feel safe when the work is not done on their way). Slowly, the house toppled by the earthquake takes shapes, and for the first time since the earthquake Madame Crislam's heart gets full of hope when she realized that soon she could house her kids to sleep inside the house again. Praise the Lord!
The work in the Clinic is also slow, but very compensating: beds are fixed, roof is made, and the waiting room starts to take shape. More comfort and dignity are evident.
The hospital where the clinic used to work already existed on Haiti way before the earthquake. A NGO founded in Haiti about 40 years ago, a school, a University, an Ophthalmologic Clinic and a Hospital. With the earthquake, everything came down, and the reconstruction would take thousands of dollars. A university from Florida offered to rebuild the clinic, with the condition that Jesus could not be preached, and no prayer could be made to the Lord. The missionaries that were here understood that this was not the purpose for what they have been called, and decided to five up of this money, that was redirected to another place. In the middle of the wreckage, tends were build and slowly the clinic got back to work, even precariously. The people so lacking on patient care, are even more on Spiritual care. The Lord is faithful, and slowly another clinic is been build, and to the His honor and glory, we are now part of this story.
Two female teams were made to make evangelism and visits in the community. Their biggest physical necessities are, with no doubt: food, house, education, health and security, but we have been surprised with people lacking to get back to Jesus.
In one of the houses that were visited, a woman asked to one of the girls that were integrated with our team (Tita, Colombian) that she could give her some God’s Word (few of them can read). After reading the Bible and pray, she said goodbye to the family there, and when she left, accidentally stepped on a dog’s path, that immediately bitted her. With wisdom, the team said goodbye and took Tita to the Clinic. Despite the bite was superficial, after been medicated (rabies outbreak is very big on Haiti), the doctors recommended that the “dog” was visited during 10 days to watch him, see if he will or if he won’t develop rabies. Consequently, a new door was opened for evangelism on that place, and the team is been very well received by the family.
Beyond our building works, on Day 21 one of the teams went to an NGO called Jesus in Haiti, where about 10 pastors and leaders of local church received some training and capacitating. Around 100 women were also meeting to receive God’s Word. It was a very rewarding time, of communion and challenges.
Pray for tomorrow’s work: the construction keeps on, and the female team will be dedicated to work with the orphanage children. We need wisdom and the Lord’s direction!
